Switching around the Health Care Plans

My mom was quite livid yesterday for this reason.

Yesterday was the Health Care Plan Change Info session. She went to it because it is something that will affect our family a lot. She wants to know whats going on and what she can do to lessen the affect it will have on us. The first thing that angered her was how they presented the meeting to all those that came to learn about it. Instead of being truthful and getting down and dirty and saying,
"Hey Concordia is in another budget crisis and we have had to make a lot of painful changes in order to come out of this crisis ok. One of these changes is health care. We dont want to cut our health care program, but we need to in order for Concordia to survive. We want it to survive and we know many of you do as well. So we are asking you to go with us in this."
Or something to that manner. Instead they came out and started the meeting like this, "Hey I'm so and so. Some of you might not know me but this is what i do at Concordia and i would like to thank you for coming to hear about this exciting oppertunity that we have here at Concordia!" This was all said in a happy and positive, cheerleader kinda way. Instead of being honest they tried to spin it.
The second thing that angered my mother about this meeting is that they didnt have all of their information ready for the meeting that they planned. An example would be that they do not know the price for this new plan. That's right they said they would have that ready in October...hmmm a red flag popped up in my mom's head. Why call us here to tell us all about this plan and not know how much we have to pay for it.
The third thing is that after this was all done there was some rather large and loud clapping, by one person. President Holst. She said that after about 3 seconds of clapping he realized no one else was and stopped. This upset her because he wont be effected by this change very much and so he could care less, or something to that extent.

Things I have picked up from this:
#1. As Ivy Lee did in his time, lead with responsibility and honesty.
#2. Get the opinion of the everyday, average folk. Learn how it will affect them.
#3. Spinning may work until people discover that thats all you do.
#4. Concordia should stop spinning things.
#5. Have all the information you can get, especially if you are calling the meeting and especially if its                          something as important as how much health care will cost for your employees.
          #6. Lead by example.

And thats all i have for now.
What do you think? Is there anything i missed or should take into consideration?

Any who , my new goal for this is to document communication with it. I have a small feeling that this might somehow be useful for the future especially since communication is my major. Here's what I'm thinking. I will document different observances I have throughout the year on things that affect people and how they communicate in a truthful manner. For instance,

In the past I have seen many a show or movie where telling a woman/girl/girlfriend/wife/mother/sister/friend who is female/etc that their overreacting leads to much pain and anger instead of calming them down. With this in mind, I received a text yesterday telling me that i was blowing something way out of proportion. I'm no genius but i think these two phrases may be interchanged quite freely.
Questions I have about this occurrence:
#1. Is it well known that this method of trying to diffuse a situation doesn't work very well?
#2. In your experiences does this only make things worse?
#3. How do women feel about this expression?
          #4. How about men?
#5. Do men think it works to say this to a woman?
#6. Do they think its works to say this to another man?
#7. Do women think it works to say this to a man?
#8. Do they think it works to say this to another woman?
#9. What is something else someone could say or do instead of this?

The Summer

Well summer's been different this year. I started it out with a wedding in Florida, followed by moving Nikki down to Illinois, then my grandma not being able to walk. So now its kinda dull. I've been working at school and I started working with Gladys and Eddie again last week. Other than that its just been the usual tiff with the woman and playing video games with my little brother. Oh and the cars having transmission issues and my dad and i have worked on that occasionally. I bought an amp for the fender i bought from kody this week. I cant seem to get the guitar to stay in tune though, hmm that makes me think there's been some mis-care for it but i dunno. I'm thinking I'll take it in to Aaron the guitar repair guy at Guitar Center. Oh and i went to the zoo with Kait for half an hour or so last Friday, that was fun. I dont know if i have ever met anyone so scared of gorillas before. There's a lot of practical jokes we could play on her because of that. Anyone got a monkey suit?

Back up and at it!

hey all,

Lets see here right now i should be at work, but my little brother and sister had dental appts so im not going in till later today. My little sister also has an appointment with the doctor today. She went to Valleyfair for the youth day on Monday and came home with a pretty sore foot from the chaffing of her sandals on her big toe. My mom took her in yesterday to get it checked out because there was a big water/blood blister on her toe and it was hurting only to find that her blood had become septic, or in her words "my blood is full of poison." Yea so the doc gave her a shot and now shes on antibiotics and she needs another shot today. Hopefully that'll take care of things though. I'm heading in to the eye doctor so he can check out my eye again. Its been pretty decent but every once in a while it starts acting up again so might as well see if there's anything else we can do. Pretty much lots of medical type stuff going on lately. Its probably better since Concordia is getting rid of the health insurance plan that my family is on and introducing a new one where they dont cover anything until you hit $5000 or so. This wouldnt be a problem if my mom wasnt supposed to go in every two weeks to get her blood drawn...yea thats about $165 a time. Leave it to Concordia...

Currently Listening: Cities 97 Sampler, Volume 18

An amazing CD, given to me by an even more amazing person. Life can get tough. It can nip at your toes and your ankles and your feet and fingertips, but it can only eat you if you let it. Friends come and friends go, it sucks but it happens. Support structures wash out beneath you and you grasp for something anything to grab hold of. Nothing is there...what do you do? Grab on to the one thing you can always count on...even if you think he's actually the source of the problem or hardship. He's not but you might think he is. Anyways stuff happens. So does Jesus...thats what's going to get me through this. This thing, this time where the friends i had arent really friends anymore...
